Announcing Cablecast 4.7.7 & 4.8.0
After some blood, sweat, and few developer tears, Tightrope is proud to announce the release of Cablecast 4.7.7 and 4.8.0!
The Cablecast 4.7.7 release contains solutions to issues with X-List, transcoding multiple files simultaneously, transcoding for podcasting, as well as a few others listed in the complete release notes below.
As for Cablecast 4.8.0, our sole focus was on improving the stability and reliability of the Cablecast SX video servers. So really, there's nothing "visibly" new in the software itself. However, Cablecast 4.8.0 brings with it some exciting new features, such as:
-SX servers now support back to back programming.
-SX servers now use an entirely new back-end for video playback and recording.
-Cablecast has its very own MANUAL! *Applause* The manual will be copied into the Documentation folder on your system during the installation process or you may access it via the link above, so check it out!
The 4.8.0 upgrade process is unlike previous releases of Cablecast as there are a few VERY important steps, that if missed, will render your system out of service. Please read the Cablecast 4.8.0 Software Update Guide until you have a full understanding of the process. The update guide is distributed with all upgrades via your download key and can also be accessed in the TRMS Documentation area of our website. If AFTER reading the update guide, you are uncomfortable performing the upgrade or are confused by the process, we suggest you schedule an appointment with our support team. You must download all of the files BEFORE your appointment with support, then they will VNC into your system, completing the upgrade process free of charge.
The following is a brief overview of the most critical, additional steps required for the 4.8.0 upgrade:
New Drivers
Customers with SX servers will need to upgrade their "SX Drivers" to version 5.5.1.215 in order for the 4.8.0 release to function.
SX-4 Cable Swap
Both of the audio and video cables (SX-4 only) need to be swapped as detailed in the Cablecast 4.8.0 Software Update Guide. The cable swap is a necessary requirement of the new driver.
Free Upgrade for SX Customers
Even though 4.8 is a "Y" upgrade (in terms of x.y.z versions), this will be a free upgrade to anyone with an SX server. You will not need an active SA contract to get this update. This is for SX customers only.
Finally, we would like to thank those of you who worked with us as beta testers on the 4.8.0 release! Your dedication and hard work played a large role in the stability and reliability of this release!

Release Notes for Cablecast 4.7.7
Bug 3509: Small force menu doesn't choose the correct input name
When two or more devices shared the same Router Address, it was possible for a inactive device to be reported in the force menu.
Bug 3653: Output drop down in System Settings : Channels : Channel IO is sometimes empty
Resolved an issue when a new channel was created, that was causing the drop down in the ChannelIO tab to be empty.
Bug 3576: X-List creates zero duration events on the output file
Switched out the format of the X-List output to include start and end times (with seconds) rather than just a start time and duration (in minutes). This should hopefully solve most rounding/zero-duration problems. Since there's no validation available from TV Guide, everyone is advised to continue to hand check X-List output.
Bug 3666: VSXPlayer.exe isn't included in installer, causes VSX playback to stop working
Build script was skipping the VSXPlayer project for some reason. It's now being built and copied correctly.
Bug 3645: Special characters in file names can cause issues in small force menu
Special characters will now be properly encoded before they are sent to the browser.
Bug 3536: Control Modules can drop some commands
Under rare circumstances it was possible for most Control Modules to skip a command, this has been resolved.
Bug 3648: VOD Transcoding multiple files at the same time
It was possible for VOD server to attempt to transcode multiple files at the same time, the has been resolved. There was no performance boost from doing more than one, and there was no upper limit, so very large workloads were possible.
Bug 3659: Extron Matrix 50 Series routers can't be controled using existing control modules
the ExtronMAV Control Module is now capable of controlling Extron Matrix 50 series routers.
Bug 3462: ShellCM does not respond to FadeUp/FadeDown commands
The Shell Control Module now implements FadeUp and FadeDown
Bug 3662: Take Delay is inadvertently doubled in SierraSVSCM
We were applying the Take Delay twice on switches using the SierraSVS Control Module, this has been corrected.
Bug 3332: Podcasting can't transcode some files
We updated the transcoding engine to help alleviate this issue.
Bug 3607: X-List doesn't respect bumped run times
Runs now contain the correct bumped times. NOTE: Any conflicts in the schedule must be resolved/bumped before generating the X-List file and submitting it to TV Guide. The file will most likely be rejected if you do not bump runs as needed.

New 3699: Manual for Cablecast
Cablecast now includes a manual. Check it out in the Documentation folder.
Bug 3602: SXEncoderCM should make a default name for encodes with an empty FileKey
If an encode is started on an SX server, and no name is specified, it will now be named "Unnamed record - <Today's Date and time>"
