AVID Media Composer Export Settings
I'm having some problems exporting files from our AVID Media Composer to Cablecast SX2 and Carousel.
We are using Sorenson Squeeze to encode the files off of the AVID. Is that what others are using or is there another program? What settings are you using?
One of our main problems is that currently it takes about 3 times longer than the length of a program to encode it using Sorenson. For example, if we're trying to encode a 30 minute show, it takes 1 1/2 hours.
I think there has to be a faster way to encode those shows so they will play back on Cablecast and Carousel.

Edit > Preferences > Behavior
Set Maximum Simultaneous Compressions to the Max it will go. (1.5 per processor/core)

Alot of it depends on the speed of the processors and amount of RAM.
We encode using the same system you have. We have 3GB of RAM and dual 3.06Ghz Zeon CPUs. We can encode a 30min show in under 30minutes.
I tend to use CleanerXL for my MPEG2 content. But Squeeze is used as well in our other Avid suite.

Inappropriate?I actually have tried to export from Avid media composer a number of times. We have sorenson squeeze 5 and need to know the settings for squeeze. I assume you send a quicktime reference to sorenson from Avid but could be wrong about that also. I have an SX-4 running cablecast 4.8.2. Anyone out there want to share these settings with me? -
Inappropriate?We'll try changing our Simultaneous Compressions. I'm not sure of the exact specs of our computer, but I know we have at least 3 if not 4gb of RAM. Ours is a Xeon, but I'm not sure if it's a dual core.

I have the latest Avid Media Composer with the same software..if using Sorenson, use the DG-Fastchannel NTSC setting for encoding your AVID outpit file (quicktime works best). I have found several times this Soreson setting works as the same format the Tightrope Server used for the MPEG playback.
If the program is a 1/2 hour or less and you dont need any menus,or authoring, try the DVD one-step export in the AVID, burn a disc, then just use the Cablecast import on the Tightrope server..this will save time depending on the method you like to use. -
