DVD import for mac
I know you guys started developing on windows boxes, and I know you had your reasons. With the SX servers it seems like the divide is getting a lot smaller for a seamless mac / tightrope work flow.
The one key missing link though is your DVD import software on a mac. (with out needing a valid copy of windows xp to run it on an intel mac)
What is needed is a native, full functioning DVD Import software for the os X environment. The ability to set in and out points on the rip would be highly welcomed as well.
Just add it to list, don't worry I won't hold my breath or anything :)

Search for MacTheRipper ... extract any title or chapter from DVDs. You would extract the title you want (.VOB), rename it to .MPG and upload.

Inappropriate?mac the ripper probably works very well for certain DVDs
The problem I have with it is that depending on the type of audio used on the DVD, the VOB file may require additional processing before it will actually be usable on my VS4 server. I can convert in a pinch, but I'm looking for one-stop shopping.

try mpeg streamclip here:

the best app I found out there
I second the vote on mpeg streamclip. We are using it almost exclusively to encode and convert HD/SD resolutions and numerous codecs between our server, FCP, and Avid workstations. Faster than QT output on some conversion, and most important, BATCH PROCESSING! Awesome.

Inappropriate? You know I have been using MPEG streamclip for a long time now. But never considered it to open the VOB files on a DVD and convert to MPEG stream.
Tried it tonight, and it worked great.

Inappropriate?Last time I tried Handbrake it produced MPEG4 files that would not work on the SX. The would play back with glitches like the frame rate was off (even though it was correct).
I’m sad

Inappropriate?using mpeg streamclip, do you just convert to mpeg or convert to mpeg with mp2 audio for sx4 compatibility?
-
Inappropriate?I tried exporting as mpeg and mpeg with mp2 audio...problem is that the default size settings are 320x240 and I can't find an option that will allow me to change this to 720x480.

Inappropriate?Hey Marcus,
Since this thread, I've been using MPEG streamclip for ripping all my DVDs. I use the convert to MPEG with MP2 Audio option.
When using this option the frame size of the DVD is used, it is not scaled or anything.
If I had to take an educated guess you are ripping DVDs that are made on a standalone consumer DVD recorder, such as the ones that allow you to copy a VHS tape to DVD. These units can record in lower quality which changes the frame size.
In MPEG streamclip you can Open the DVD, and once in loads go to File -> Show Stream Info This will tell you the frame size of your DVD.
If you need to change the frame size, which you should for an SXServer using the File -> Export to MPEG-4 will allow you to use a scaler on the frame size.

I’m hoping this helps.

Inappropriate?thanks again, ray. Yes, I'm ripping from a consumer dvd burner.
