Is it possible to put Carousel in a dormant state (no video) and use override function to put messages on the unit remotely?

Inappropriate?Hey Lou,
Hmm... we do have a "remote control" protocol called RDA (Remote Data Adaptor) that application developers can use to create bulletins programatically. Is something like that what you're looking for?
You can read more about RDA in the Carousel manual, specifically in chapter 19.
Is this helpful?

I’m curious

Maybe.... Can this RDA lock the "switch" and prevent the scheduler from changing to a video program? Emergency bulletins need to stay on until canceled -
Inappropriate?Ah, I see now... you're looking for a way to remotely trigger Cablecast's "Automation Override" feature, which prevents the router from switching until the automation is resumed.
There isn't a way to remotely trigger that at the moment, you'll need to be logged into the web interface and actually click the "Override" or "Resume" buttons yourself.
So, when you have an emergency bulletin that needs to stay on the air, your steps would be:
- Create and schedule the alert bulletin in Carousel
- Log into Cablecast, navigate to the Force matrix, and click the Override link for the channel you want to override
- While the channel is overridden, your devices will continue to play, but your router will not switch to them, keeping Carousel live on the air.
- When the emergency is over, log into Carousel and disable the alert bulletin
- To resume programming, log back into Cablecast, and in the Force matrix screen, click the "Resume" link to let the router start switching again. It should switch to whatever input should be on the air right now, having the effect of joining your programs "already in progress."
I hope this will work,
-John

Inappropriate?Boy, wouldn't it be great if, during creation of the Alert Bulletin, there was a checkbox that would take care of the above steps automatically?
Maybe two choices: 1) Force Override of Cablecast Automation after the current program ends; 2) Force Override of Cablecast Automation Immediately and return to Carousel. Checking none of the above boxes would simply put the Alert Bulletin on Carousel but have no effect on Cablecast.
The end action checkbox could be "Return to Automation when Alert Bulletin Expires," which would make everything right with the world!
