SDI output with CBL-CGSDI
I'm in the market to change out a bad A/D converter (for my Carousel scan converter), and I'm wondering if you guys are still selling the CBL-CGSDI? What is the price and availability? What does it look like? I recall it hooked to the DVI output on the Carousel. Is this a typical scan converter or something more? For example, is it just a connection from the DVI output and loops through for a normal monitor (like a typical scan converter) or does it work in conjunction with the VGA output at the same time? I'd love to see a photo or image of it before dropping the coin.
Thanks
Thanks

Hey David. The CBL-CGSDI is basically a scan converter. It takes in the digital DVI from a Carousel/CG250 and outputs Composite, Component, SD-SDI or HD-SDI. The composite scan converting that it does is beautiful. And since it does all the other outputs too (SDI and HD-SDI) you should be able to use it for a long time.
Our list price is $1,525.00

Oh, you can also send reference in to, so if anyone needs to genlock their Carousel this is a good way to go. -
Inappropriate?Frankly I think it is pretty kick-ass. Will be putting in on my buy list to give it a try. Sincere thanks JJ!
I’m excited

Inappropriate? One additional question on the converter, you (JJ) mentioned it had HD-SDI out, is this a menu function (using the SDI output) or another box? I only see the one SDI connection. Thanks
-
Inappropriate?Yup, the SDI BNC outputs either SD-SDI or HD-SDI and is switched in software. HD-SDI can output 1080i 50, 1080i 59.94, 720p 59.94
I’m keen on HD-SDI

Inappropriate? Thanks so much. Already ordered it through my local reseller.
I’m I'm geeked on the whole thing

Inappropriate?David,
Did you ever get the CBL-CGSDI? If so, how do you like it? Does the SDI ouput work as you hoped it would? Thanks
A question for Tightrope...... is the CBL-CGSDI still the most current way of getting SDI output from a Carousel unit? Looking for SDI output to work with SDI router during digital system upgrade. Is this just basiclly a add on option to a regular Carousel system? That is what it looks like.
Also, what SDI routers will cablecast control? A Sierra Video 16x16 SDI Lassen router by chance?
Thanks! -

I did get the CBL-SDI and it works well. It is a Matrox MXO with TRMS's drivers to work on Win XP. Although a tad finicky to setup in terms of reboots and confirmation of drivers and output, the quality is perfect. Here are the pros and cons as I see it.
PROS:
-SDI out is superb and as expected
-Physical setup a breeze (took me no more than a few minutes)
-Genlockable!!!! This has been great for us as the previous Carousel output was the only source not synced and gave us a nice tear when switching - no more!
-HD and SD option for output
-Small form (smaller than my previous scan converter)
-Priced right to compete with other SDI scan converters
CONS:
-Setup with software is cumbersome with numerous (two or three) reboots
-Control of cropping settings a problem. I cannot seem to get a cropped image to project and have to stay with the default settings. To workaround I just cropped my Carousel zones and that seemed to work fine.
-Problem with nVidia driver update. Had to roll back driver as the system didn't like it. Had to uninstall and reinstall MXO drivers. I haven't identified if this is an user error, but TRMS might need to confirm the proper approach as to how to update graphic drivers, etc.
Overall I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a low-hassle SDI output for Carousel.
As for our switcher, we are using a Leitch (Harris) 32x16 Panacea SD-SDI router. My audio is analog with a Panacea analog audio router mastered and slaved together.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?David,
I see this unit has the capability to send embedded audio out with the SDI video. From your experience with this unit, how does that work? Is it coming through the DVI cable? Is that even possible? Or maybe the USB via mac software? If we use this in our install, we hope to use embedded audio thoughout the facility and not have analog audio routing. So if we want say have a radio tuner to play along with the Carousel, how would we make that work with this product? I am thinking it can't be done via the way TRMS has it working on the Windows machine. I know we can use another outboard box to embedd the audio. Just trying to avoid the added hardware and complexity to the install.
Maybe the DVI digital spec has provisions for audio on the Mac? Anyone know? -

Ok I found out how that works on the Interweb...see the photo. I guess the box has the ability to input audio through the DVI cable but the actual source is from a 1/8" stereo plug on the computer side. So I guess that could be connected to a computer OR something like a radio tuner. Can someone from Tightrope confirm you ship this with that cable included?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Glad to hear so much positive stuff. I have had mine for 3 months and I still can't get the software installed properly and support is lax at best.
-
Inappropriate?Randy,
Give Tightrope a call at their support line or submit a trouble ticket using their website www.trms.com/community. They are reponsive and will help get it working right. :-) Now that NAB is over, they might have more people at the office to answer your questions.
