The Public TweetLater Twitter :)
Public Tweet @WendyRoan
I received a public warning (well, it wasn't really a warning) today about my auto-reply twitter response. I didn't really appreciate receiving that publicly. It makes me look bad (worse than the auto-replies) to everyone. It really bothered me, enough to have to speak it out loud (respectively).
The instructions for that app specifically said to start out sending public tweets. So I did. When I tried to change it to private, it didn't work. I didn't want to delete the account, so I let it go.
I finally decided to delete the account today when I repeatedly tried to change the settings again.
The worst part is... after I deleted the account, solving the "annoyance", you publicly tweeted me about it - in a sense, scolding me.
That did not feel fair. I acted on the first complaint I got; solved the problem, and got publicly hand slapped in front of all of my followers and who knows who else.
It just wasn't a good feeling and I don't feel I deserved it. I would much rather have received a private message about it and I wouldn't have even thought twice about it. You would have just been someone trying to help me out.
Ok. Enough "expressing my feelings". I hope you understand I had to talk with you about it rather than let it fester and bother me more.
Thanks for listening :)

Inappropriate?Wendy,
I truly apologize. My tweet to you wasn't meant as a scold, not even in the least. I'm sorry that it came across that way.
What behavior did you observe in the software when you tried to change from public tweet to private DM?
There was a short period of time on Friday when my software had a problem validating the Twitter credentials against the Twitter system. I suspect it was unfortunately during that period of time when you tried to change from public tweets to private DMs.
That issue has now been solved. -
Inappropriate?Yep. I think that's exactly what happened. I was a database programmer for the state before I couldn't work anymore. I know how stuff like that can happen.
I appreciate your friendliness about the whole thing. I had to voice myself, but didn't want to lose you as a friend on Twitter. I couldn't sleep all night because my mind was racing.
Hope you'll still stay my Twitter friend.
So, if I create a new account now and set up those auto replies as private, will it work? Or should I wait a bit.
Wendy J. Roan
I’m Pleased and Relieved

Inappropriate?I'm remaining very much subscribed to you on Twitter. :-)
It will work if you re-add your Twitter account. The problem of Friday has been resolved.
