Followers and Following are all gone - when will this be fixed?
My profile says I am following 0 people and have 0 followers, but I didn't change anything... everything seems to be deleted? I have over 1240 followers --- and am following over 4000 - why is it not showing???Never had this happen before!

We are still working on this problem. We restored a lot of the data last night but have more work to do. Some users are missing follower or people they follow. Others are missing all of their followers/followings. Either case is very frustrating.
There's more that we can do and we are doing it. In some cases we may not be able to completely restore everything. We are doing the best we can and fixing this is our highest priority.
As we have more information, I will post it here.

Thank you to all the folks who provided additional information. We went into maintenance mode to recover from the missing user problem which was caused by a data inconsistency problem.
We were able to restore to an earlier version of the relationship data. You may still see out of date information for one of the following reasons:
1) The changes are still propagating out to all parts of the site. It will take several hours for the data to be correctly reflected everywhere.
2) There may be some missing data as a result of this restore. In particular, changes you made to your social relationships in the past 12 hours may not be reflected.
3) Notwithstanding the first two points, the counts that appear in your profile for followers or followings may be slightly different than they were before. Those counts are generated from a cache that was not always a perfect reflection of the true data. Therefore, the counts may slightly change.
I completely understand how frustrated everyone is by this outage. Thanks for your patience as we recover and work to make sure it won't happen again.

This really sucks. Can you fix this please? I have been loyal to Twitter throughout many outages, but this really messes with the relationships I've been painstakingly building. What I have been discovering as I re-follow people (I have found about 1/2 them again) is that the people I lost are all people I started to follow more recently. I was an early adopter of Twitter so many of my contacts were made a while back. Maybe we lost followers added after a certain date?

@jimthompson here. I did not verify any device in the past 24 hours. I'm not convinced the followers are actually gone. I have noticed that Twitter says I am not following certain other users -- @maslowbeer, for example -- and yet I *still* receive all their updates. It seems that the relationship is intact, but the web site is not reporting or counting it. Just another data point for you.

Inappropriate?By the way, the Twitter Status page (http://status.twitter.com/post/433171...) describes the problem as "Folks are reporting problems with missing followers - that is, seeing the follower counts drop on their profile pages.".
It's not just the follower count on my profile page. I actually don't follow certain people anymore and a "follow" button appears on their page when I'm logged in.

2. I got an error message from Twitter, saying that it tried to send an SMS update and failed... and to txt "On" to turn updates back on. I waited a while to turn updates back on. Some time between getting that message on the web, BEFORE I sent the "On" message, most of my people I'm following disappeared... about 51 people. And about 90 followers disappeared.

Inappropriate?I also have this problem. My follower and PEOPLE that i followed are half gone. And i'm not, i repeat, i'm not following any spammer. Is this simply a bug, a choke, or an intended act?

It was definitely intended. That's why they posted asking for people to give them information so they could fix something they meant to do. It's also why they said it was an "issue" on the status blog. Because it was completely intentional!

if that's the case, then it's two words. Stupid, and fool. If more people feels the same bug, i'm not really sure about Twitter future. The Fail Whale, the
timeline bug, and now this "issue"! I'm waiting for some action here. -

Inappropriate?I dont have alot of people I follow, just 10 or 11, but all of their tweets are gone and it says im following 0 people. The pics still show up in the people section. name:richardserrano and no on the devices. I have only been using twitter for a week, and with all the maintenance and outages, its pushing me toward somewhere else. And the whale, while cute the first time, is obnoxious and annoying the 30th time.

Inappropriate?Yup. My account @mdy shows a drop as well, although when I checked the stats around 6 hours ago (after the problem was first reported) they were still fine. The drop must have happened during or after the maintenance activity.
